London & Palace of Westminster Photo Walk
Date: TBC
Location: London
Cost: £TBC
Easy/Moderate

Join photographers Ian Pack, Ben Potter and Helen Atkinson for a photo walk in London. We've yet to decide on the content for the next walk, but be assured there will be plenty of variety, including one or two photographic exhibitions. At the end of the day there will be a Chimping Competition with a prize for what the walk leaders judge to be the best image.

Due to the success of our previous London Photo Walk, we will include the Palace of Westminster low-light workshop (see below).

Early booking is recommended as places are limited. Participants will be encouraged to upload and share their images to the dedicated Flickr group shown below.

Canon EOS 5D MkII, 24 – 105 mm f4 IS L Series. Focal length 24mm colour temp. 4850K (daylight), RAW, -1 stop exposure compensation, tripod, remote release, ISO 200, f8, 1/6th sec Image cropped after adjustments to RAW in ACR

The above image was created on the 5th November 2009 at 16:42 hr (4:42 PM), sunset was 16:28 hr (4:28 PM). Personally, I prefer some detail in the sky, rather than total darkness. For an image like this the sky and forground can always be darkened during post-production.

Experience the special light before and after sunset. Low-light & Night Photography including Palace of Westminster & Big Ben, London Eye. The exterior lights on the Palace of Westminster come on around 15 minutes before sunset.

This is a great opportunity to get some special shots of London landmarks. You will need to take a tripod for the best low-light and night shots. For those of you willing to experiment, Ian and Ben will demonstrate some techniques to support your camera without the aid of our three-legged friend, along with exposure techniques to create a variety of special effects in camera.

Chimping Competition:
If walk participants wish to participate, all they need to do is select what they consider to be their best shot of the day and display it on the screen of their digital camera. The walk leaders will then judge what they collectively consider to be the best shot and the winner will receive a TBC.

To Take Part:
Please contact Ian Pack by email if you intend participating, no later than TBC as we will need to contact the authorities for clearance; we will be imaging in a secure area of London.
